Lashenda Williams was sleeping in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery store in Nashville. One day, she took a step that changed her life.

A DIFFICULT LIFE

Williams had a tough life. She grew up in foster care. She had cerebral palsy, a severe learning disability and a history of addiction. She was working occasional cleaning jobs, but her history and health problems made it hard for her to find steady work. Unable to afford housing, she began sleeping in her car in the Kroger parking lot. The store was open 24 hours, and she got to know the employees there.

“I felt blessed on the days when I could walk into that store and get something to eat and drink and hear a kind ‘hello’,” she said. “I’ve always felt safe there.”

THE DAY EVERYTHING CHANGED

One day, she saw a flyer announcing a job fair. Williams asked if there might be a job for her at the store. Jackie Vandal, the assistant store manager, helped Williams fill out an application and hired her on the spot.

She started as a part-time cashier. A month later, she became a full-time associate.

HER FIRST HOME

After a few months, Williams had saved enough money for a deposit on a one-bedroom apartment. Although she was thrilled, she didn’t have any furnishings for it.

Verlenteez Williams, a regular customer at the store, told her he could give her some items he didn’t need. He also posted a message on Facebook asking for donations.

Enough donations poured in to completely furnish the apartment.

LEARNING WHAT LOVE IS

Williams’ story was featured on local news and Good Morning America.

Williams said she still can’t believe she gets to drive home now instead of sleeping in her car. She said, “I have never known love like the love I got from Kroger. I never knew what love was before now.”

  • Cut back on watering in the spring and summer. This lets the blossoms rest.

HE’S A HARDWORKING MAN

Derlin Newey is 89 years old. He works evenings delivering pizzas for the Papa John’s pizza chain.

Derlin became very popular with his customers for his cheerful, friendly personality. His signature greeting was to shout, “Hello, are you looking for some pizza?”

HE BECAME A TIKTOK CELEBRITY

One of his best customers was Carlos Valdez. The couple has a TikTok account with over 50,000 followers.

They were so charmed by Newey’s friendliness that they began featuring him on their TikTok videos. Viewers began asking to see more of Derlin and his funny greetings.

TikTok is a video-sharing social media site where users can post 30-second videos.

INSPIRED TO HELP

Some of their viewers began wondering why Derlin was still working at his age. Inspired to do something, Carlos asked his account followers to chip into a fund for the older man.

The donations came pouring in. By the time the donation period ended, the TikTok account had raised more than $12,000.

HE BURST INTO TEARS

Carlos and his wife went to Derlin’s home with the check signed, “From your TikTok family.” The older man burst into tears when he saw how much the check was.

They also gave him a shirt that says, “Are you looking for some pizza?”

The event was filmed for the TikTok account and by local news station KSL.

CARING COMMUNITY

Derlin lives alone. He said he works about 30 hours a week as a delivery driver because he can’t pay his bills on Social Security. The Valdez family said they are still getting donations for him.

Derlin didn’t even know what TikTok was, but he certainly knows what generosity is, thanks to a caring community.

Goat Sneaks Into Deputy’s Patrol Car, Eats Her Paperwork!

A deputy sheriff in Georgia had an encounter that really got her goat when she was making a routine paperwork run.

IT TURNED INTO A GRUFF ENCOUNTER

The Douglas County deputy was delivering civil papers to a farm. When she arrived, she left her cruiser’s passenger door open since it was a quick stop.

In a Facebook post about the incident, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office explained that, “Due to the number of houses she visits daily, she routinely leaves her vehicle’s door open because she has had to retreat on a number of occasions from vicious dogs. Never once did she expect or even consider what was about to happen this day!”

THIS GOAT WASN’T KIDDING

The deputy opened the door to find a goat in her car and her paperwork in shreds. He found all that paper irresistible and decided to help himself to a snack.

A body cam video shows the officer trying to shoo the goat away, but he takes his sweet time leaving those tasty, shredded treats.

A TALE WITH A HAPPY ENDING

The deputy tried pushing the goat, pulling his tail and swatting him away. At one point, the goat accidentally knocked her over as she was trying to remove him.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the good cop, bad goat encounter. The sheriff’s office said, “We all got a little laugh out of it, and we hope you do, too.”

We’ve heard of dogs eating homework, but this is the first time we’ve seen a goat eat official paperwork. This deputy has a great excuse for not turning in her work.

Driver Crashes Into Road Sign After Spotting Spider Inside Car

A recent accident is a reminder to keep your eyes on the road no matter who climbs into the car with you.

A driver in the UK smashed into a road sign after he became distracted trying to remove a spider from his car.

According to the UK Daily Mail, the driver was travelling in the town of Wootton on the Isle of Wight. He saw the spider, freaked out and tried to get the insect out of his car. This caused him to plow directly into a road sign.

A WARNING TO OTHERS

The man suffered minor injuries, but his car was totaled.

Isle of Wight police posted a picture of the accident with a warning to avoid getting distracted by spiders or other seasonal critters.

AT LEAST HE PARKED NEATLY

Some people saw the humor in this situation. Several Facebook posters wondered jokingly if the spider had made it out alive. Some complimented the driver for his “nice even parking between the white lines.”

Others noted that the accident could have been much worse. The driver could easily have run into a row of people or a school bus instead of a road sign. As one poster said, “If they did this while on their phone, everyone would be critical, but because it is a ridiculous reaction to a small spider, everyone thinks it is funny.”
