Photographer Captures Images Of Cats and Dogs From Underneath

Just when you thought there was no new way of looking at your pets, a team of photographers called Underlook has developed a special way of photographing cats, dogs, rabbits and horses from underneath.

Wait, how does that work?

As you can see in this video, the team at Underlook uses a clear glass table to hold the dogs or cats. Once the pet stands on the glass, photography equipment in the lower level takes the picture.

Catching Totally Natural Poses

Some pets are caught standing still, some are caught squirming around and others are snapped while leaping or running. The unplanned, totally natural poses make the pictures fun and guarantee that no two look the same.

Success From the Start

The whole thing started when Andrius Burba, a photographer from Lithuania, started taking pictures of cats from underneath. The photos were a hit, and a German publisher issued a collection called Under-Katzen (Under Cats).

The Underlook photographs gained almost instant popularity for their unique way of seeing animals in a new light.

Get Your Own Underlook Art

The team’s photographs have appeared in art exhibitions and won several awards. At the same time, they’re still available to regular people who want their own samples of these unique pieces.

Since 2017, their team has made it possible for individuals to get their own “underlook” pet photographs. Customers can contact them or attend an Underlook photo shoot.

We all talk about recycling and repurposing, but one young artist is walking the talk by transforming broken, discarded CDs and DVDs into gorgeous animal sculptures.

The pieces are amazingly lifelike and intensely glittery. Some of them veer into the fantastic with their bright, dazzling colors. A platypus with purple scales, a kangaroo with a baby in her pouch, a hedgehog with a brilliant blue coat and a silvery koala are all part of Avery’s menagerie.

Precise Details

Seeing them up close really gives you a sense of the painstaking level of work that goes into each one. Avery says it can take more than a week to create each one.

Avery begins by creating a frame out of chicken wire. He then breaks the CDs and DVDs into dozens of tiny, sharp shards. He glues the shards onto the chicken wire frame. It can take up to 50 CDs to make one animal.

Artist Brings Ordinary Stones To Life With Adorable Animal Paintings

When most of us see a stone, we kick it aside as nothing special. For an artist named Akie, a stone is the perfect medium for one of her tiny, exquisite works of art.

Making Magic from Stones

Akie has made a name for herself as a “stone artist.” Using only paint, she transforms ordinary stones into beautifully detailed, amazingly lifelike animals.

Nakata’s versatility is astonishing. Her stone animals include a pair of cuddling koalas, a mother opossum with her babies, a snowy owl, a hippo, a sleeping fox and a dog playing with a ball.

These Tiny Stone Animals Are Perfection In Miniature

The faces on these animals are expressive and alive. The brushwork is fine and detailed.

Even more remarkable, Akie says she never reshapes or cuts the stones. She only cleans them, files any rough edges and paints whatever the stone’s natural shape and texture have inspired.

Akie recently had an exhibition at Seizan Gallery in Tokyo, which she says was a lifelong dream.

Yes, You Can Adopt One

Would you like one of these precious creatures for yourself?

Akie gets many requests to buy her art, but she notes that she can’t do custom work because she never knows what type of stone she’ll be working with. Her Facebook page displays the stones up for “adoption,” as she calls it, each week. You’ll have to discuss pricing and shipping directly with her.

Brazilian Artist Creates Beds For Stray Animals From Old Car Tires

We’re all trying to recycle, reuse and repurpose, but one young artist is taking that trend to the next level. Amarildo Silvio Filho is a 23-year-old Brazilian artist who upcycles old car tires into beds for stray animals.

Compassion and Creativity

Filho was trying to come up with a way to recycle the old tires he saw littered all over his city. It occurred to him that they would make durable, waterproof beds for animals. He began experimenting and soon realized that he had a winning idea.

Two years later, Filho has made thousands of his colorful, comfortable beds for stray cats and dogs.

Colorful Enterprise

To make each bed, Filho begins by cleaning each tire. He then paints the tire in bright colors, adds some pet-friendly touches and attaches a mattress. The beautiful, eye-catching beds quickly caught the public’s eye.

Soon, people wanted tire beds for their own pets. Filho has set up his own business called Caominhas Pets. He has an active Instagram account where he updates followers on the stray animals who are using his beds.

Branching Out

Filho has since branched out. In addition to the pet beds, he makes and sells planters, furniture and recycling bins, all made from old tires. He also teaches workshops on recycling.

Filho donates a percentage of his profits to nonprofits that support the environment. He estimates that he has saved over 6,000 tires from landfills.

Can You Buy Beds For Stray Animals?

This talented young artist can only sell his pet beds and other products in Brazil at the moment. He’s hoping to find an investor or partner to help him expand worldwide.

In the meantime, you can enjoy looking at those adorable beds. Maybe you’ll be inspired to turn one of your old tires into something wonderful.
