Dog Left Alone In Car — Drives In Circles For An Hour!

November 25, 2019 by Good Living Guide. This post may contain affiliate links. Leave a Comment

It’s never a good idea to leave your pet alone in the car, especially if your dog decides to hit the road. That’s what happened in one Florida town, where a dog named Max took a joyride in a 2003 Mercury Sable.

Dog Left Alone In Car

A Dog Doing Donuts

Residents of a quiet neighborhood in Port St Lucie were surprised when they came out of their houses in the morning to see a car riding around in slow circles. The car was doing reverse donuts right in the middle of their cul-de-sac.

Stranger still, the only driver of the car appeared to be a large black Labrador.

Canine Joyride

A police officer managed to get to the slow-moving car, open the door and turn off the ignition. Max jumped out, happy and unhurt.

Max’s owner later explained that he pulled into the cul-de-sac when he got lost. He got out to ask for directions and left Max in the car. In the meantime, Max accidentally shifted the car into reverse.

There were no injuries except to an unlucky mailbox, which Max’s owner promised to replace.

Toni Doherty, an Australian grandmother of seven, has become an international hero after she used her own shirt to rescue a koala from a bushfire.

A Raging Horror

Toni Doherty and her husband were driving through a koala sanctuary while a bushfire was raging.

As the couple watched in horror, a screaming, confused koala ran from the middle of the road straight into the fire.

At that moment, Doherty jumped out of the car, pulled off her shirt, dove into the fire and used her shirt to grab the little guy.

Rescue and Reunion

The story of the koala has a happy ending.

Doherty and the injured koala had a sweet reunion at the Koala Hospital. The little survivor, who Doherty named Lewis after one of her grandchildren, joined 14 other koalas who were rescued from the fire.

Koala Love

Doherty said she hoped her overnight fame would bring more awareness to the plight of koalas. “They are vulnerable and losing their habitat,” she said on a morning news show.

She also said, “I’m glad I was wearing a good bra that day.”

Most of us don’t enjoy working out, and that’s why we can all empathize with Cinder, a sweet, chubby cat whose workout video recently went viral. In the video, you can see Cinder reluctantly move one paw on the treadmill and complain loudly to her trainer.

Big and Beautiful

Cinder, also known as Cinder Block because of her hefty size, is on a weight loss program that includes working out on an underwater treadmill. Obesity is just as dangerous for cats as it is for humans, and Cinder currently weighs 22 pounds. She should weight about 12.

Brita Kiffney, a veterinarian in Bellingham, Washington, explained to the Huffington Post that Cinder’s owners had to relinquish her. Once she is in better physical shape, Kiffney’s receptionist will adopt Cinder.

Everyone’s Pulling for Cinder

Kiffney said Cinder Block is starting to exercise with more enthusiasm and is a mellow, loving sweetheart.

Cinder’s weight loss journey is being cheered on by thousands of fans on Twitter and other social media. Kiffney said she’ll use any proceeds from the viral attention to help other rescue animals.

In a true story that sounds like the feel-good movie of the year, Katheryn Strang has been reunited with her lost dog after 12 years and 1000 miles separated them.

Two-year-old Dutchess escaped from her Florida home in 2007.

Dutchess’ Incredible Journey

In October 2019, someone found Dutchess on the streets of Pittsburgh and brought her to the Humane Animal Rescue. When employees at the shelter ran a routine microchip scan, they discovered the incredible news.

They contacted Stanger, who drove more than 1100 miles to bring her baby home. A local news station was there to film the emotional reunion.

The Power of Hope and a Microchip

The story proves that microchipping is an inexpensive, important way to keep track of your pet.

Dutchess had a microchip, and Strang continued to pay the registration fee and keep her records updated every year.

“I held out hope because I paid for that microchip every year,” she told CBS News. “It was $15 a year. I wasn’t going to give up hope for that. Always hope.”

Eugene Bostick saw a man pulling wagons attached to a tractor and had a great idea. “That would make a great dog train,” he thought.

Yes, he said a dog train.

Every week, Forth Worth residents can watch Bostick with his train full of rescued stray dogs joyriding along like the celebrities they are.

Dog Train Is a Real Trip for These Lucky Canines

To make his train, Bostick welded together several sturdy plastic barrels. He then attached them to a tractor.

The dogs love going out for a spin. They tour the city, check out local parks and visit their fans.

All Aboard the Dog Train

This special train has become a favorite among Fort Worth locals.

Bostick and his brother Corky care for several stray dogs on an 11-acre property just outside of town. The brothers also feed the ducks, geese, beavers, foxes and other critters that visit their property.

The Dog Train Keeps Rolling

Did the dog train inspire you to do something special for animals? We can’t all build an amazing train like this, but we can all try a little tenderness when it comes to our furry friends.

Man Who Recorded Pig’s Treatment Banned From Iowa State Fair

August 28, 2019 by Good Living Guide. This post may contain affiliate links. 1 Comment

Wheaten Mather was enjoying a day at the Iowa State Fair when he saw something that horrified him. A young boy was beating his pig in the face with a show stick. A show stick is a small, lightweight whip used to guide pigs and livestock in show rings.

Was the Fair Unfair?

Mather filmed the incident and contacted authorities at the fair. What happened next isn’t clear. Mather admits that he became agitated.

The fair’s director accused Mather of being “threatening” and banned him from the fair for life.

Difficult to Watch

Mather posted the footage on his Facebook page with warning that, “This is a difficult video to watch and a difficult video for me to post.”

Although Mather received a lot of support from fellow animal lovers, he also faced criticism from a few people.

What Is Painful to a Pig?

These people pointed out that pigs are very thick-skinned and that using a show stick is an acceptable way to get a stubborn pig to move.

Guides from the 4H, however, recommend using a light touch with a show stick and never hitting pigs on the face.

The animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) also intervened.

“It is shameful that the Iowa State Fair sanctioned the good Samaritan who spoke out against whipping a crying pig and didn’t take allegations of animal abuse seriously,” the organization said in a statement.

PETA has offered a $5000 reward for information about the pig or his owner.
