A company called Beetl Robotics has come up with a machine that any dog owner would prize. It’s called the Beetl, and it does the whole messy job for you.
How does it work? If you’ve ever seen a Roomba in action, you might have an idea of how the Beetl works. It’s a compact machine that looks like a small lawnmower.
The best part about the device is that it works on its own. Beetl uses real-time image analysis to detect piles of poop in the grass. It then goes toward the poop, stops and uses a mechanical claw to pick it up.

Might I suggest making size options. Not everyone has lol terrier dogs. Some of us have dogs that poop human sized. Or multiple dogs. If it could empty itself into a container when full that’d be even better.
Exactly…and some poop like horses. As slow as that gadget was scooping it up, my dog would already ate and been behind it poopin again…twice to it’s one scoop..lol
I have 2 Bullmastiffs and would love something like this if it works. Talking big loads here, 2 to 3 times a day. Does it signal somehow when it is full. Disposable containers just be affordable. Does it work in the rain? Would love to test it.

Seems like it might have a problem with multiple “loads” in the yard. 5 dogs can leave a lot of yard fudge all around. Not sure how it would work picking up multiple piles of this as it would fill up quick with multiple dogs if it is able to pick up multiple piles without having to empty after each one. The way it looked is it opens its jaws to pick up the mess and then trims any grass that may be caught in jaws. How about the next pile it would have to open the jaws again to pick up the new pile and at that point would then drop the existing poop it has picked up to be able to open jaws and grab next pile. Is this a workable issue. I love the idea but it looks like it may need to be tested out on multiple pile issues before releasing out to public. Just my two cents worth. Keep at it though I really do think there is a market for some type of automated land mine picker upper.. lol

It’s a good idea but I just don’t see it being affordable or truly feasible. I would never be able to run it while my dogs are out, they would kill it. The bags will probably not be very cheap and only a few to a pack. Can it be used in the snow? Not practical if it can’t. What about holes the dogs have dug, will it go through them or get stuck in them? I can’t help but compare it to a automated litter box. I bought one of those. Not cheap and neither were the bags. It was ok for 1 cat. When I got a 2nd cat, I had to go back to a regular cat box. The automated one kept getting too full and then get jammed. Not fun to tend to. Save your money and get a little fresh air and exercise, just watch your step.
Definitely want to be informed when this becomes available, IF it will work on artificial grass. In SO. CAL, we don’t have the real stuff.

This sounds great and all, but what about the large breed dog’s. Is it big, and heavy enough that a large prey bird cannot pick it up. As well as the cost of the robot, and the bags that go inside of it. It is a great idea, however are we not making it easier for humans to become lazy?

Make sure your wheels are fat enough to go over snow and ice. I live in Anchorage Ak. I pay for someone to come by every week to pick up poop. If this is affordable and will operate in snow and ice, I’ll buy it in a sec!!!!
